Recipes for Success

Celebrity chef Simon Rimmer, our own specially developed recipes, 7 wonderful families and a TV crew – all ingredients for a truly memorable appearance on Channel 4’s Steph’s Packed Lunch!

The programme focused on the escalating costs of living, a subject we care a lot about, with so many families struggling with spiralling costs. Our cookery clubs address this by teaching foundational cooking skills based around our recipes that are simple to follow, economical, nutritious and easy to repeat at home. And we have a lot of fun along the way!

Simon Rimmer picked up this point during the programme: “As well as the recipes, which are very well written and very concise, there are also tips on storage, and how long it will last for. The reality is the food is genuinely delicious…it shows you don’t need to spend a load of money to make food.” There was certainly lots of enthusiasm as the cameras rolled and the studio even cooked along with us. In fact, as a result, Steph herself said that from now on they are only going to feature recipes that will feed a family of 4 for a fiver.

Chris Dyson, Head Teacher at Parklands Primary where the filming took place, said of the Family Cookery Club: “It’s been absolutely one of the most amazing things that we’ve ever done in school. Flourishing Families…they’re making dreams come true. It is amazing. What they’re doing is absolutely off the scale.”

I’m a Somebody

“Before this group, I felt like a nobody. Now I feel like somebody.” This was the answer 8-year-old Evie gave when asked about the difference our Activity-Based Mentoring Group had made for her. This sums up for us why we do what we do. Everyone deserves to know that they matter, whatever their circumstances and challenges.
