As CEO of Flourishing Families Leeds, I am incredibly proud to lead a dynamic and committed team of staff and volunteers working to tackle poverty and inequality in my home city.
With a career spanning education, charity and public sectors, I bring a deep understanding of the complex challenges facing families and how to address them with timely, practical and compassionate solutions.
Drawing on years of experience as a teacher, I now lead our Early Years programme and oversee day-to-day operations at Flourishing Families Leeds.
I love building strong relationships with families and supporting our team to deliver joyful, creative community groups. As a mum of two, I understand first-hand the value of fun, supportive spaces for parents and children alike.
I lead the Family Literacy programme at Flourishing Families. I am passionate about the power of shared reading and being able to support families in developing a love of reading for life.
I have extensive experience as a teacher and curriculum lead and it’s a joy to be able to work with children and have the privilege of seeing their imagination, confidence and love of stories grow.
My favourite children’s books are The Storm Whale, Eyebrows of Doom and anything in the Mog series.
I’m currently covering maternity leave as Team Leader for both Family Cookery and Family Literacy. It’s a pleasure to be part of such a supportive and skilled team and working with Flourishing Families is proving to be a fulfilling and inspiring experience.
With a strong background in education and retail management, I bring a wealth of experience in working with people, supporting families, and creating positive learning environments. I’ve always had a deep love for cooking and a genuine passion for helping families give their children the best possible start in life, motivations that align perfectly with Flourishing Families’ vision.
I’m part of the FFL cookery team, where I use my skills in planning, organisation and recipe development to help things run smoothly, from sourcing ingredients to leading groups and packing for sessions. I am also responsible for running our hardship appeals – one of my favourite parts of the job. I love being able to see how this practical way to help can make such a difference for families.
I love bringing energy to our community events and being able to chat to so many different people. My top three FFL recipes? Lasagne, Chicken Fajitas, and Apple & Mango Crumble – my own creation!
I work part time and also volunteer for FFL (I enjoy it so much I can’t keep away!). You will mainly find me in Story Tellers, but appear in mentoring and cookery from time to time.
I love the work I do at FFL from developing resources for Story Tellers, to then meeting the families at the groups we run. I am a great believer that you can’t have too many books – I love reading! Storytellers is something I’m very passionate about.
Some of my favourite children’s books are Stickman, Green Eggs and Ham, and The Harry Potter series – Goblet of Fire is my favourite, and I’m proud to be a Slytherin!
I volunteer with Flourishing Families, supporting the charity’s day-to-day administration and finance operations. While much of my work takes place behind the scenes, I also value the opportunity to get involved with family support, contributing directly to the impact of our programmes. Outside of my volunteering, I enjoy walking and spending quality time with family, both locally and abroad.
