Celebrating the King’s Award for Voluntary Service
We were thrilled and honoured to receive this prestigious award as part of HM The King’s Birthday Honours in November last year.
December 16th -
261 meals cooked 287 crafts created 80 books read .. 1 amazing term for our virtual clubs! Thank you to everyone for making the jump online, and to our wonderful volunteers who have tirelessly delivered so many art and cookery packs to the community.
It’s been a different way of working for Flourishing Families as we’ve had to pause many of our in-person family groups and start a new weekly routine of filming video tutorials, putting together craft and ingredients bags, then driving around West Leeds to hand over the packs to families at the doorstep.
It’s been so encouraging to see lovely photos of what the children have made and the positive feedback that we’ve received so far. One mum said, “We were absolutely gutted at first as we thought we wouldn’t get to do cooking again because of lockdown, so thank you for keeping it going.”
Our usual in-person groups are a great way to build community, share ideas and have fun together, and we are very much hoping to start these again next year when we can. In the meantime, we’re thankful to have found a way to keep our activities going and stay in touch with everyone this autumn.

The Flourishing Families staff team is growing, and we're really excited to introduce to you our two newest team members!
Our work to overcome child poverty was the top story throughout the day on BBC Look North on 20th December.
We’re thrilled to welcome the latest additions to our team, Tabitha, Papaya and Josiah, our Graduate Interns, and Helen, the latest member of our cookery team. We can’t wait for them to showcase their experience, expertise and enthusiasm! Let’s get to know them a little better…
